Bob Callahan

Honored in 2017
Teacher, Coach, Administrator

“Make it a great day or not.  The choice is yours.”  Words of wisdom spoken day after day to a myriad of students and teachers at Dumas High School have not been lost on the hearers.   Bob graduated from Perryton High School in 1965 where he was the quarterback for the Perryton Rangers, a big rival of DHS.  After graduation Bob served our country in the US Army, and married Miss Rita.  After completing his education, Bob Callahan started his legacy at Dumas High School in 1978.  He came to Dumas from Kerrville.  He coached and taught at Dumas High for 35 years.  He took a short sabbatical from education to work for John Deere, but soon realized his calling was as an educator and returned to education serving as a teacher, coach, assistant principal and principal until his retirement in 2013.  One can hardly throw a stone at any staff gathering of DISD and not hit a former player, student or young teacher who was influenced by Bob Callahan’s passion for students and his love for education .  These people – those who carry a part of him in their hearts – these are his legacy which will live on for generations to come.
