Alumni 1965

Few people have spent their lives demonstrating more love for Dumas and Moore County than Jay Funk. After graduation from high school, he became a business owner and was always involved in activities benefitting Dumas. He served on the city council and was named Dumas’ 1986 Citizen of the Year. Funk was active in Lion’s Club and promoted the growth of the YMCA. As much as he loved Dumas, Funk loved the Demons and Demonettes even more. Throughout his life, he attended as many sports events as he could, cheering on the Orange and Black. Student athletes could count on his unwavering support. Jay Funk was an author, a civic leader and an avid sports fan. More importantly, he was a good father who passed on a legacy of positive civic participation and school pride. This legacy lives on through his son and grandchildren as well as in those he influenced
